Types of Delivery Methods
When it comes to delivery methods, it’s always hard to predict what will happen during labour and delivery. Hence, knowing the types of delivery methods is a good thing. Our labour and delivery specialists support all deliveries, including complicated pregnancies.
Stages of Labour
Labour is a chain of continuous contractions of the uterus that help the cervix dilate or open and efface or thin. This dilation lets the fetus move towards the birth canal. There are three stages of labour in delivery. They are cervical effacement, pushing and childbirth, and delivery of the placenta.
The stages of labour in instrumental delivery is the same as the vaginal delivery. Nevertheless, the assistance of forceps or a vacuum extractor is used to pull the baby out of the uterus.
Cesarean delivery is the surgical procedure used to bring the baby out of the mother’s uterus by making an incision in the mother’s abdomen. Spinal or epidural anaesthesia is used to perform the procedure.
Managing Labour Pain
Pain during labour varies from person to person. However, experts at Yogana Hospital help expectant mothers with various pain management techniques including medicated and non-medicated methods.
o Epidural anaesthesia
o Spinal anaesthesia
o Breathing techniques
o Hypnobirthing
o Meditation
o Massage therapy
o Positioning and movement
o Hot or cold therapy
o Relaxation methods
Doulas
Doulas are well-trained professionals who provide emotional support to expectant mothers throughout the delivery and postpartum. Doulas are not medical professionals, yet they offer physical and emotional support to expectant mothers. We, at Yogana Hospital have qualified doulas who strive to ensure our patient’s birthing experience is memorable.
Mother-Baby Bonding
Our maternity specialists help mothers and their partners to bond with the newborn right after birth through:
The delayed umbilical cord clamping lets the blood from the placenta continue flowing to the baby. This increases the iron level in the newborn for up to six months.
Kangaroo care is the approach where the newborn is naked and placed in the bare chest of the new parents. This allows the child to calm down and feel secure.
Our labour and delivery experts help new mothers with the right position to latch and bond with the baby.
Postpartum Care
Our highly skilled healthcare professionals help and educate new mothers on how to care for sore breasts and vagina, perineum, and vaginal discharge. We also help our patients to manage mood swings and other emotional instability after labour and delivery.
